Hanyu Xiao (*1998 in China) is a composer and artist and currently lives in Munich. After early piano studies, she began her musical career at the Wuhan Secondary Music School in 2010. She came to Germany in the summer of 2015 and studied composition from 2016 to 2017 in the young talent class with Dr Prof Claus-Steffen Mahnkopf at HMT Leipzig. From 2017 to 2019 she studied composition in the bachelor's programme with Prof. Orm Finnendahl and from April 2019 to 2022 with Hon. Prof. Claus Kühnl at the HfMDK Frankfurt/M. Since October 2022 she has been studying composition in the master's programme with Prof. Moritz Eggert at the HMTM Munich and from October 2024 she will begin a further certificate course in the master class. At the Günter Bialas Composition Competition 2019, Hanyu Xiao received a second prize (without a first) and the piece ‘Trio for Flute, Viola and Harp’ was premiered by Ensemble Oktopus and broadcast on BR Klassik in March 2020.
